Annapurna Scheme (अन्नपूर्णा Bhojnalaya Yojna)

To Make Sr. Citizens’ Life superior, this scheme was introduced in which food security to Sr. citizen candidates will be given.
This yojna has been launched with effect from 1st April, 2000. By the help of Annapurna Scheme government meet the requirement of those senior citizens who, though capable, have remained uncovered under the National Old Age Pension Scheme (NOAPS). अन्नपूर्णा Bhojnalaya Yojna is targeted to cover, twenty percent (13.762 Lakh) of persons capable to get pension under NOAPS.

Beneficiaries of Annapurna Scheme

The Central assistance under the Annapurna Scheme is, thus, given to the beneficiaries on fulfilling the following criteria:
  • Age of Sr. Citizens’ either male or female must be more than 65 years.
  • To get beneficiaries Sr. Citizens’ should be a poor in the sense of having little or no regular means of substance from his/her own source of income or through financial support from family members or other sources.
  • In order to determine poverty of Sr. Citizens’ to bestow them Beneficiaries of अन्नपूर्णा Bhojnalaya Yojna, the criteria, if any, in force in the States/UTs may also be followed.
  • Sr. Citizens’ must not be in receipt of pension under the NOAPS or State Pension Scheme.
  • The beneficiaries are given 10 Kg. of foodgrains per month free of cost.
  • Funds are currently declared to the State Departments of Food & Civil Supplies (F& CS ;) in one installment.
  • This Department ties up with the Food Corporation of India (FCI), to release food grains district wise on payment of the cost of Food grains at CIP rates directly to the FCI offices. Initially the food grains were supplied at economic cost (Rs.9.80 per Kg.).
  • However, w.e.f. 1.11.2000, food grains are supplied at the CIP rates for BPL families (Rs.4.90 per Kg.)
  • The beneficiaries under the scheme are chosen in the Gram Sabah’s and the Gram Panchayat distributes the entitlement cards to the beneficiaries.
  • By the help of अन्नपूर्णा भोजनालय योजना, poor senior citizens of 65 years of age or above who though capable for old age pension under the National Old Age Pension Scheme (NOAPS) but are not getting the pension, will acquire the Food Security through this yojana in which 10 kgs of food grains per candidate per month will be supplied free of cost under.
